Angela Varela has served as the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) since July 30, 2025 (Government Gazette 962/ΥΟΔΔ/30.07.2025), following the completion of the prescribed competitive selection process, in accordance with Law 5062/2023. She studied Public Administration at the Panteion School of Political Sciences, graduating in 1983. She pursued further studies, completing a postgraduate program in "Tourism Business Administration" at the Hellenic Open University (2006). Later, she earned a second postgraduate degree from the School of International Studies, Communication and Culture—specifically the Department of Communication, Media and Culture—in the "New Media and Journalism" program at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (2016). Her professional career is inextricably linked to the Greek National Tourism Organization, which she joined in 1983. Since then, she has held various senior positions—both in Greece and abroad—with a primary focus on tourism marketing. She speaks English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
